Decision on Palm Court gate at AGM
By PRIYA MENON

A SOLUTION is finally in sight to the Palm Court Brickfields residents’ protest over the locked main pedestrian gate.

The residents handed over a memorandum to deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator T. Murugiah on Monday.

This took place when Murugiah and Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid held a meeting with the members of the Joint Management Body (JMB) and five representatives of the residents.

At the meeting, Murugiah suggested that the gate remained temporarily open until an Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held.

JMB committee opening the pedestrian gate for the residents to use.

“Both parties have agreed to this and at the AGM, residents as well as unit owners can decide on what they want as a permanent measure,’’ Murugiah said.

Owners can vote for the closure of the gate or for it to remain open for residents to walk in and out.

He also said he would attend the meeting in order to ensure that everybody’s voice was heard.

“We can discuss this problem and find a solution,” Murugiah said.

The residents have promised not to hold protests until the AGM is held.
The JMB members have also said that only residents and owners of the condominium can patronise the in-house restaurants and shops.

“Only outsiders accompanied by a resident or an owner can use the facilities,” Murugiah said.

Nearly 100 residents from the condominium held a protest on Saturday demanding that the pedestrian gate be left open 24 hours.

When JMB committee members comprising 11 residents and one developer refused to unlock the gate, a locksmith was called in to break it open.
